The Cashew nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) is actively exploring coaching sessions for the opportunities to enter the Australian retail market and strengthen business linkages with buyers in the cashew industry, with support from the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED).
CAC aims to expand the international footprint of Cambodian cashew kernels by learning from Australian experts about key aspects of the retail supply chain. This includes gaining insights into customs regulations, import taxes, food safety standards, certification processes, and packaging strategies tailored for the Australian market.
A core area of focus is understanding packaging trends that appeal to Australian consumers. CAC is looking into a variety of packaging designs—such as those with transparent windows to showcase premium-grade products. These include whole white cashew nuts (WW), split halves (WS), large white pieces (LWP), and cashews with testa (AW). By offering multiple product types, CAC aims to provide greater consumer choice based on quality and pricing.
In Australia, such packaged cashew products are often placed in different aisles across supermarkets and retail marts, depending on their category and presentation. CAC is studying these placement strategies to better position its products for success.
Through continued collaboration with CAPRED and Australian industry stakeholders, CAC hopes to meet more buyers and diversify its product range. Cambodian cashews are known for their natural flavor and high nutritional value, as they are not enhanced with artificial flavorings—an attribute the cooperative believes will resonate with health-conscious Australian consumers.
This initiative is part of CAC’s broader efforts to elevate the profile of Cambodian cashew products in global markets and enhance the livelihoods of local farmers through sustainable trade partnerships.
