Cambodia, EU Officials Meet to Review Progress of National Cashew Policy

Phnom Penh, 18 June 2025 – The Ministry of Commerce convened a key consultation meeting on Monday, 16 June 2025, with representatives from the European Union Delegation to Cambodia, the EU-German GATE Project, and the EU-German CAPSAFE Project to launch the mid-term monitoring and evaluation of the National Cashew Policy 2022–2027.

Held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Phnom Penh, the meeting brought together high-level stakeholders, including the Deputy Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation, national consultants, and officials from the General Directorate of Trade Promotion and the Department of Trade Policy.

The primary objective of the meeting was to present a summary of the progress made in implementing the National Cashew Policy and to develop a joint action plan for its mid-term review. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Cambodian institutions and European partners to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of the country’s cashew sector.

Participants reviewed an action plan and timeline for the upcoming evaluation, which will be carried out by national consultants in partnership with the Department of Trade Policy. The meeting emphasized the importance of monitoring policy outcomes and identifying areas for improvement in the second half of the policy’s implementation period.

A representative of the EU Delegation reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Commerce in enhancing the effectiveness of the National Cashew Policy. The EU also pledged continued efforts to promote value addition for Cambodian cashew products and improve the international reputation of the country’s cashew industry.

The National Cashew Policy 2022–2027 is a strategic initiative aimed at boosting Cambodia’s cashew value chain through increased productivity, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
