CAC Supports the Establishment of a Modern Farming Community

Kampong Thom, February 9, 2025

The Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) expresses comprehensive support for the policies enacted by the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of Agriculture, particularly those aimed at establishing modern agricultural communities. CAC emphasizes the importance of promoting local products, with the ambition to increase Cambodian cashew production to over 1 million tonnes within the next five years.

On February 3, 2025, Mr. Silot Uon, Chairman of the CAC, said that the Prime Minister’s visit to Cambodia’s modern agriculture community, along with his direct engagement with members of the modern cashew farming community in Kampong Thom, represents a significant and encouraging development. This event underscores the commitment of the Royal Government and relevant institutions to the advancement of this vital agricultural sector.

Silot expressed sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister and all government leaders for their attention to the cashew industry. He affirmed that the establishment of modern agricultural communities would mitigate the substantial challenges previously encountered by the sector. By collaborating effectively in the procurement and sale of cashew products, farmers will benefit from enhanced market accessibility, thereby reducing time and transportation costs. Furthermore, this transformation will establish a framework that prevents traders from arbitrarily lowering prices, thereby ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation for their products.

The Chairman of the CAC outlined three critical proposals directed to the Royal Government:

  1. The CAC requests that the Royal Government, through the Small and Medium Enterprise Bank and the Agriculture and Rural Development and Bank, disburse funds in a timely manner to assist enterprises in the acquisition of processed seeds. This support is essential for stabilizing prices against competition from neighboring traders.
  2. The CAC seeks governmental assistance in facilitating the expansion of the enterprise’s capacity, which is currently constrained. Such expansion would enable these enterprises to access necessary capital through bank loans.
  3. The CAC advocates for the Royal Government to consider the exemption of certain non-taxable fees, including the extension and waiver of specific taxes.

These proposals are intended to bolster the cashew nut industry and provide enhanced support to local farmers in Cambodia, the same as the rice sector.
