Phnom Penh, July 2029 — The Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) was among the organizations invited to take part in a major e-commerce event organized by the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) of Cambodia. The event highlighted the country’s ongoing efforts to promote digital trade and broaden market access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through the CambodiaTrade platform.
CambodiaTrade, an online marketplace operated by the MoC and accessible at CambodiaTrade.com, aims to empower Cambodian SMEs by offering a digital platform where they can showcase and sell their products both domestically and across borders. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to integrating Cambodian businesses into the global digital economy.
“The vision of CambodiaTrade is to create economic opportunities for local SMEs and to enhance their participation in domestic and international e-commerce,” said a representative from the Ministry of Commerce. The platform functions as a B2B2C (business-to-business-to-consumer) solution designed to support inclusive economic growth.
The event was organized under the framework of the $48.7 million Regional Trade for Development (RT4D) initiative, which is jointly funded by the Governments of Australia and New Zealand. RT4D supports ASEAN Member States in implementing the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
Through programs like the AANZFTA Implementation Support Program (AISP) and the RCEP Implementation Support Program (RISP), RT4D delivers targeted support to ASEAN nations, with a focus on enhancing trade capabilities, building inclusive policies, and supporting underrepresented groups such as micro-enterprises, women, and people with disabilities.
Key objectives of the RT4D initiative include:
- Providing world-class technical expertise for ASEAN economic cooperation.
- Collaborating closely with ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat.
- Supporting less-developed ASEAN economies to address unique developmental needs.
- Facilitating the implementation of Free Trade Agreements to ensure inclusive benefits.
CAC’s participation in the e-commerce marketplace aligns with national and regional efforts to boost competitiveness and open new trade avenues for agricultural producers and other SMEs in Cambodia.
As the digital economy continues to evolve, initiatives like CambodiaTrade and RT4D play a critical role in equipping local businesses with the tools, knowledge, and connections needed to thrive in a globally integrated marketplace.
