The Government is in the process of establishing the first cashew industrial park in Kampong Thom province

Phnom Penh – The Royal Government of Cambodia is in the process of developing a cashew industrial park to boost the country’s cashew sector. This initiative, which marks the establishment of Cambodia’s first cashew industrial park, is set to take place in Kampong Thom province, known for having the country’s largest cashew cultivation area. The project’s progress was reviewed during a meeting at the Peace Palace, chaired by Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, on February 7, 2025.

The cashew industrial park will focus on processing cashew nuts and will cover nearly 600 hectares, located approximately 13 kilometers from the provincial town of Kampong Thom.

Kampong Thom province boasts around 150,000 hectares of land dedicated to cashew cultivation, with over 140,000 hectares currently being harvested. The average yield in the province is about 1.5 tonnes per hectare per year, resulting in a total production of more than 220,000 tonnes, which accounts for about 30% of the country’s overall cashew output.

According to a report from CAC, Cambodia currently has around 700,000 hectares of cashew plantations. Out of this, 580,000 hectares are in the harvesting phase, while approximately 120,000 hectares are newly cultivated. The total annual yield from these plantations ranges between 800,000 and 1,000,000 tonnes.
