Cambodia and EU Launch Business Partnership to Boost Agricultural Exports

Phnom Penh, June 2, 2025 — The Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia, in collaboration with the European Union and the German Ministry of Trade, officially launched the EU-Cambodia Export Partnership Lab and the Agri-Innovation Lab today at the Oakwood Premier Hotel in Phnom Penh. The high-level event was presided over by H.E. Samheng Bora, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce, and co-organized by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ).

Mr. Silot Uon, Chairman of the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia, was among the guests invited to attend the event, which marks a significant milestone in strengthening Cambodia’s export potential and agricultural innovation.

The newly launched initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of Cambodian businesses, promote exports, and reinforce the resilience of the national economy. By focusing on technical assistance, business development, and capacity building, the program seeks to open more opportunities for Cambodian producers in international markets.

In a special session titled EU-German GATE, Mr. Samheng Bora, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, shared insights into the vision and goals of the partnership. The event also featured success stories, practical lessons, and expert discussions on international compliance and certifications.

Dr. Dilum Wijenayake, General Manager of Control Union Cambodia, discussed the importance of meeting international standards for food and non-food products, while Mr. La Youssey, Senior Export Promotion Advisor for the EU-German GAT Project, provided valuable lessons on certification processes.

Highlighting market potential, Mr. Wim Schipper, Procurement Director of Intersnack Group & Co., presented insights into the European cashew kernel market. Dr. Hay Ly Eang, Founder and President of Confirel, spoke on the vital role of a well-structured export strategy.

This partnership represents a strong commitment by the EU and Germany to support Cambodia’s economic development and its integration into global markets through innovation, sustainability, and capacity building.
